Abstract
The current material was collected during the research supported by the grant of RFH «Provocation as a Social Phenomenon». The author shows a specific role of provocations in policy, which differ from provocation in art or scientific area. Provocation is a method of political struggle aimed to cause the maximum damage for the political opponent. Provocations differ by character of purposes, by extent of the damage, forms and methods of implementation, etc. Trolling as an integral element of modern Internet subculture is an example of the modern form of provocation.
