Abstract
The international activity is currently an important indicator of the effectiveness of the university. There is a negative tendency of decrease of Russia's presence in the world market of educational services. The article describes the main factors responsible for this situation, and gives a descriptive analysis of state statistics in the field of international activity. The public opinion on the question of the position of Russian higher education in the world, as well as on the need for its internationalization is analyzed.
