Abstract
The article discusses the idea of the development of ancient society as a progressive process. Sometimes the society has passed the phases of the chiefdom and the early state, because it founds alternative ways of development. However, in other cases politogenesis of ancient society fits well into the theoretical framework of the Service- Sahlins.
