Abstract
The article deals with the role of world rankings and methodological approaches to the compilation of the leading international academic rankings. In the article the author makes a comparative analysis of the representation of universities of different countries in the THE, ARWU and QS rankings in the humanities and the social sciences and considers the domestic approach to the compilation of the rating by «Expert» analytical center.
