Abstract

The article describes conscription of soldiers of different nationalities in irregular cavalry formations in the period from 1914 to the beginning of 1917. The authors indicate reasons for reduction in the number of ethnic volunteers by the end of the 1916. The study makes us to conclude that hopes for extra reinforcement during the war by organizing the ethnic divisions were not justified.
