Abstract
Since 1991, relations between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran take an important place in the politics of both countries. The cooperation of these states during 25 years has spread to almost all the important moments of the international partnership. Among them, energy, trade, tourism and, more recently, military cooperation, which manifests itself in the participation of Russia and Iran in the Syrian civil war. It becomes obvious that the relationship between the two countries are developing into something more than just an international partnership. It is interesting that both states are under pressure of international sanctions (from the US and Europe), and that determines the special policy of Russia and Iran on this issue. In this study, we are talking about the possibility of creating a strategic alliance between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, taking into account the current international situation.
