Abstract

The article analyzes peculiarities of conceptualization of national security process in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia after becoming independent in 1991. It demonstrates the evolution of approaches towards national security from maintaining neutrality and maximum independence to recognizing NATO as a cornerstone for national security and using so-called Russian threat in order to consolidate the society. Special attention the authors pay to analyzing the key national security documents and revealing general trends and differences in national security problems definition and resolution.
