Abstract
The article examines the status of the institution of local self-government in Russia after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020. The author gives a brief historical overview of the development of local self-government in the last 25 years, examines the reasons why the western model of local self-government has not taken root in Russia and opposes the critics of the amendments. The author gives suggestions for updating federal legislation in the field of local self-government in connection with the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
