Abstract

Maritime transport is one of the most important elements of international economic trade relations. The development of the country's economy, which is open to the sea, requires, among other things, the stimulation of sea and river transport and, indirectly, port activities. Improving the operation of the port system reduces transport costs and can ensure an increase in the competitiveness of economic sectors at the level achieved by other EU countries. This is possible only thanks to innovative management that ensures the identification and implementation of measures to improve the quality and optimization of port logistics processes. The article summarizes the main characteristics of port services, the quality of port services, the components of the port system and the competitiveness of the port. The author gives a comparative analysis of port development priorities based on a set of criteria adopted at the international level.
