Abstract

The article describes the demographic situation in the Amur Region in the last five years. The tendency to decrease in the number of the population of the region, caused, first of all, by migration outflow of the population is noted. The picture of the natural movement of the region’s population is represented by decreasing birth and death rates and an increasing index of the total fertility rate. A positive trend is the significant decrease in the infant mortality rate. Demographic, socioeconomic, medical and socioethical causes of demographic problems have been analyzed. The main measures taken by the Government of the region aimed at creating a positive balance of migration, increasing the birth rate, as well as reducing the death rate of the population, especially the ablebodied age, are presented. Promising measures to improve the demographic situation in the region include the development of priority economic projects (the formation of mining and metallurgy, oil and gas processing, energy, agro-industrial, tourist and recreational complexes, the creation of the space industry). The main conclusion of the article is overcoming the demographic crisis. It requires the implementation of a set of consistent and focused activities of the legislative and executive authorities at the federal, regional and municipal levels.
