Abstract

Object. Working age population. Subject. Work behavior characteristics of population groups differing by subjective assessment of living standards. Theoretical side of the subject. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study is formed by foundings of domestic and foreign scholars in the realm of analysis and measuring of living standards of the population (M.F. Förster, V.N. Bobkov, M. Orshansky, A.Y. Shevyakov etc), including absolute, relative and subjective approaches to the poverty assessment; work behavior theory (A.L. Temnitskiy, V.I. Verkhovin, V.A. Yadov etc) and labor potential (I.S. Maslova. A.S. Pankratov, M.S. Toksanbayeva etc); the concept of qualitative characteristics of the population (N.M. Rimashevskaya, V.G. Kopnina etc), as well as N.I. Shatalova’s conceptual approach to understanding of labor behavior as a way of labor potential implementation. The empirical side of subject. The study is based on data obtained from one of the stages of a sociological monitoring of qualitative state of labor potential, conducted by the ISEDT RAS research team in 2014. The sample value is 1500 people with gender and age quotas. The sampling method is zonation with proportional distribution of the observed units. The sample is random and nonrepeated. Sample error lies within 4-5%. Goal of research. Sociological analysis of the impact of subjective assessments of living standards on work behavior (in the case of Vologda Oblast). Basic theoretical and empirical issues of the article. The study empirically supports the hypothesis that population groups differing by subjective assessment of their living standards have different work behavior strategies. Work behavior is observed in a general sense, as a motivated behavior of the working-age population on the labor market and used in employment. The study shows that an increase of the subjective standard of living leads to changes in job-seeking strategies, work mobility and its causes, abundance of occupational job and the level of realization of various components of labor potential.
