Abstract

Urgency of the Research Topic. There are many factors influencing the Russia's regions population quality of life. Among them security, level of income, sociodemographic structure of the population, political stability in the region, the availability of quality medical, educational, cultural, recreational organizations. The set of factors may vary depending on the method chosen. In any case researcher inevitably fases questions: how to effectively present the results of the study, if we are talking about all the regions of Russia? How to visually identify the impact of various factors on quality of life? And how to see quality of life changes over time. These problems are resolved by application of the method of social mapping. Mapping as the method of analysis is undergoing a period of formation in the field of social sciences. The article shows the applicability of this method in sociology, in particular, in the study of Russia's regions population quality of life. The article provides estimates of the quality of life index, and the economic, sociodemographic index and the condition of housing and communal services index in all regions of Russia for 2013 with one of the objective methods. It is specially noted the procedure for map creation on the basis of these indices. There marked the analytical capabilities of the method of social mapping. Also text gives information about the prospects for its further use. The Object of the Study is quality of life of the population in regions of Russia as a complex category. The Subject of the Study are the determinants of quality of life of the population in the regions of Russia: economic, sociodemographic factors, as well as the factor of the condition of housing and communal services (hereinafter – the factor of state utilities). The Purpose of the article is to present social maps reflecting quality of life of the population in regions of Russia and major groups of factors that influence it (economic, sociodemographic, status, and utilities). To achieve this goal the following objectives were set: 1) justifying the applicability of the method of social mapping for the analysis of life quality factors of Russia’s regions population; 2) choosing one of the methods of quality of life studies to create social maps; 3) analyzing social maps to define groups of regions with similar quality of life, and similar quality of life factors.
